《诗经·王风》

彼黍离离，彼稷之苗。

行迈靡靡，中心摇摇。

知我者谓我心忧，

不知我者谓我何求。

悠悠苍天，此何人哉？

彼黍离离，彼稷之穗。

行迈靡靡，中心如醉。

知我者谓我心忧，

不知我者谓我何求。

悠悠苍天，此何人哉？

彼黍离离，彼稷之实。

行迈靡靡，中心如噎。

知我者谓我心忧，

不知我者谓我何求。

悠悠苍天，此何人哉？

本诗出自《诗经·王风》，《毛诗序》说：“《黍离》，闵宗周也。周大夫行役，至于宗周，过故宗庙宫室，尽为禾黍。闵周室之颠覆，彷徨不忍去，而作是诗也。”此诗被列于《王风》之首。

This poem is from Airs of Kings·the Book of Songs. As is said inMao’s Preface“Millet Droops Lowis a nostalgic and sentimental poem written by a grandee, who passed by the former capital and saw the dilapidated scene of the old imperial palace and ancestral temple which had become a millet field.” This poem is the first one ofAirs of Kings.

Millet with grain droops low;

Sorghum attends the blade.

So slowly I go through;

My heart is so dismayed.

He who knows me says I'm distraught.

He who doesn't asks if I'm seeking aught.

O vast, almighty blue sky,

Who on earth caused this and why?

Millet with grain droops low;

Sorghum is in the ear.

So slowly I go through;

My heart feels drunk and drear.

He who knows me says I'm distraught.

He who doesn't asks if I'm seeking aught.
