春夜喜雨

好雨知时节，当春乃发生。
随风潜入夜，润物细无声。
野径云俱黑，江船火独明。
晓看红湿处，花重锦官城。
杜甫（712—770），字子美，自号少陵野老，唐代伟大的现实主义诗人，与李白合称“李杜”。原籍湖北襄阳，后徙河南巩县。DU Fu (712-770), Zimei by courtesy name and Shaolin’s Old & Lone Master of None by literary name, born in Xiangyang, Hubei Province. Later he moved to Gongxian County, Henan Province. Du, a great realistic poet in the Tang dynasty, and Li Bai were jointly known as “Li-Du”. (马宝燕译)
A Blessing Rain on a Spring Night

A good rain knows its time to come,
And brings things to life right in spring.
It steals into the night with wind
And mutely moistens everything.
Over wild paths, clouds are all black,
A boat afloat, its lone fire bright.
At daybreak one sees wet and red;
Flowers in Brocade Town make a sight.
*Brocade Town: alias Silkton, Chengdu, a city once prosperous with fine silk, now the capital of Sichuan Province.
